There are two appointments based at both the Bristol and Central London offices.

The team also provide a full-specialised legal advisory service to other in-house business departments.  With specific focuses on coverage issues arising out of construction building defect claims, involving general liability.

The candidate that we seek will be a legal specialist/litigtion expert regarding both contentious and non-contentious work asscoiated within the building construction business. 

Work will consist of legal tasks involving issues/litigation with the highest degree of difficulty and facts that are often in question.  That considerable legal judgment, experience and independent reasoning are required.

We will be looking for a candidate with case experience with extra contractual damages exposure.

This work requires significant experience in specialist litigation,  incorporating a high level of technical expertise.

Our ideal Senior Lawyer candidate 6-10PQE will have extensive trial experience.  The less experienced lawyer 2-5PQE will not be expected to have such technical contentious trial/work experience.

Work tasks will include drafting complex project documentation for clients and advising on procurement, funding and some regulatory strategy. Working with in-house specialists and external consultants as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to management to avoid legally unsound decisions or plans and when changes in the law occur;
  • Represent the company as litigation counsel in all aspects of coverage litigation, including court appearances, trial preparation, motions, discovery and negotiations;
  • May handle high exposure cases and/or the most complex or specialised cases;
  • May supervise, train, or mentor other junior lawyers;
  • Provides research, legal analysis, factual information, counsel and guidance on legal questions or issues, typically focusing upon coverage and coverage-related issues;
  • Prepare position papers on various legal issues and interpretation of contractual provisions;
  • Work closely with external clients while resolving legal issues. Responds to government regulatory agencies;
  • Work independently in resolving legal cases with minimal supervision;
  • May perform additional duties as assigned;

 Knowledge & Abilities required:

  • Senior level advanced knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and procedures of litigation management within a modern law firm environment ;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills;
  • Excellent negotiation, consultative and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively interact with all internal and external client and law firm partners;
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, and to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive information;
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and senior level skill in managing ambiguous situations and issues;
  • Proven ability to take a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives in order to achieve strategic business results;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software;
