Crime Duty Solicitors

Our client a reputable Cornish law firm seek to appoint 3 Crime Duty Solicitors to start in May 2010.

They must be available by 1st May 2010 to register in the relevant LSC Duty Solicitor rotas for 14th July 2010. These positions are not appropriate for trainees or legal executives.


A good salary is offered plus generous unsocial hours’ payments. The firm operates its own 24 hour rota and there are opportunities for Own Client / Panel unsocial hours work outside the LSC rota.

There is one additional requirement for an applicant to be considered. As a criminal duty solicitor is unlikely to justify their salary in this rural area on crime work alone they must bring to the firm a second discipline. This will be in family legal aid, general civil or Crown Court preparation. These are already established departments. Thus:-


Applicant 1
50% crime and 50% family legal aid work (some private). Family supervisor status required and a thorough knowledge of working in the fixed fee regime with referrals to mediation at the heart of managing the lower level fees cost effectively.


Applicant 2
50% crime and 50% civil. The civil is mixed with some CFA’s, CW1 Tolerance work in debt and employment and private clients.

Applicant 3
50% crime and 50% Crown Court preparation. We have a significant portfolio of ongoing serious crime across the spectrum including more rewarding POCA matters. Less serious trials and pleas are often dealt with by our own advocate with Higher Rights.

Crime Lawyer

A job vacancy for a Crime Lawyer with “Police Station Accreditation” Possible High Rights of Audience. 1-2 & 2-16 PQE. 40-70K

Our client seeks to appoint two specialist crime lawyers both qualified with police station accreditation. We seek a newly qualified 1-2 years PQE, additionally a seasoned professional, possibly with “Higher rights of Audience” qualification.

Work will be both private and publicly funded. Solid experience regarding advocacy is paramount for the senior role. Attending both magistrate and crown court regarding both bail hearings and trials.

Work will include some of the following, High level criminal litigation: serious fraud, extradition, confiscation, deportation, procedure of crime –forfeiture, licensing, sports – media, petty theft, armed robbery, murder, white collar, VHCC, seizures, prison law, inquests, human rights and action against police could all be part of the senior brief.

The client a busy and expanding law firm is based in Central Cornwall seeks a lawyer with the above mentioned working skills. Ideally a litigation lawyer with crime duty experience or visa versa. We seek a professional with 3-10 years PQE, possibly more. Our client is possibly offering medium term partnership prospects for a candidate who has ambition.

Civil Litigation – Dispute Resolution experience: Work could involve - Consumer credit, Personal injury, commercial litigation disputes, contracts, defendant insurance, landlord and tenant, partnership, contentious probate, alternative dispute resolution disputes – ADR, employment, complex litigation, white collar fraud, general fraud, strategic advice for claims avoidance and risk management, environmental issues, arbitration, mediation, expert determination, debt recovery, insolvency, joint venture disputes, web trading, agricultural disputes, IP/IT, intellectual property, construction, patents, fraud, regulatory issues etc…. We seek a professional that can sell the firm to local businesses, local authorities and individuals in key strategic positions.

Crime Duty experience – Low to medium level crime work progressing through to fraudulent matters. You will inherit a good general caseload. We seek a professional who is good communicator, negotiator and has prominent advocacy skills. Able to conduct legal representation in court, prepare defence of such matters that proceed to trial, assessment and examination of the prosecution case and marshalling of clients defence. Obtaining evidence from defence and expert witness, preparation of detailed mitigation for court presentation. Advising on recovery of court costs, orders for prosecution costs and confiscation proceedings. Finally attending and representing clients at the police station.

Family and Crime Duty Solicitors

Senior Family and Crime Duty Solicitor job - 40 to 60K, Partnership Potential.

Family and Crime Duty Solicitor job - 2 to 4 PQE, 25-38K.

Our client, a busy law firm based in Cornwall seek the above. Ideally, a Family solicitor who is additionally a competent Crime Duty Solicitor with police station accreditation.

Family - Possible member of Family or Children’s Panel, processing caseload of both private and publicly funded matters including divorce and ancillary relief, cohabitation and domestic violence, private and public children’s matters, must be able to undertake own advocacy. Advise on compromise agreement, undertake initial interview, advising on case route, act for both petitioner and respondent, draft all divorce documentation, possibly proceed with application for ancillary relief, including completing and assessing for form E. Drafting all questionnaires, chronologies and schedules of issue. Advocacy - attend appointments, financial dispute resolution hearings, preparing instructions for counsel, attend conferences, court hearings, mediation referrals, voluntary financial disclosure, analysing disclosure, advising on consent orders, s14TLATA applications. Children Matters - Advising and taking instructions from clients and negotiating agreements, preparing and issuing C1/C2/C7’s - drafting statements, attending child protection conferences, pre-proceeding meetings, directions appointments, case conferences and final hearings, preparing instructions for experts and counsel, liaison with courts, guardians, CAFCASS, local authority and medical experts. Domestic Violence - Taking instructions form clients regarding injunctions, letters of warning, N201’s, notice of issue and preparation of the affidavit in support, advocating at ex parte on notice hearings, instruct counsel and attend court with counsel for disputed hearings.


Crime - The position involves low to medium level criminal work progressing through to fraudulent matters. You will inherit a good general caseload, personal professional qualities should include good communication, negotiation and advocacy skills. Maybe able to conduct legal representation in court, prepare defence of such matters that proceed to trial, assessment and examination of the prosecution case and marshalling of clients defence, obtaining evidence from defence witness and expert witness, preparation of detailed mitigation for court presentation, advising on recovery of court costs, orders for prosecution costs and confiscation proceedings, finally attending and representing clients at the police station.
