A Legal Cashier is a specialised type of bookkeeper for law firms who is responsible for the accounting and finance functions of a solicitor’s practice. This can include recording day-to-day financial transactions and ensuring compliance with the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules.
Taking responsibility for a company’s financial matters and interests.
Consulting with clients, law firms, and businesses on financial concern.
Scrutinising large transactions.
Assisting in the planning of a business or client’s financial strategies.
Recording all transactions in the appropriate manner.
Dealing with clients when receiving payments.
Keeping track of all banking on a daily basis and managing the accounts system.
Dealing with all invoices and ensuring they are paid on time.
Ensuring the efficient operation of the firms PAYE scheme.
Processing account transactions, both inbound and outbound payments
Performing bank reconciliations to tally up bank accounts and books
Producing daily, weekly and monthly reports on the financial status of the law firm
Checking for errors and reporting any account breaches
Invoicing clients for work done and chasing overdue monies
Submitting quarterly and year-end VAT returns
Maintaining separate client and office ledgers
Ensuring compliance with relevant rules and regulations
Liaising with compliance officers, clients, auditors, regulators, suppliers and banks
Daily bank reconciliations
Overview of month end and year end reports
VAT returns & National Statistics Business Surveys
Nominal postings and journal
Processing of all client legal transactions to the strict Solicitors Accounts Rules ‘SAR’
Monitoring and reviewing of systems and procedures to ensure compliance
Internet banking CHAPS and BACS
Producing profit reports for Directors and Partners for decision and performance purposes
Compliance and to safeguard the Partnerships financial assets.
