Trade Mark Attorney

The role:
The Trade Mark team is commercially focused, motivated and proactive and it carries out the full range of trade mark protection work including:
• Drafting and filing – including pre-filing advice to clients, issues of registrability, drafting specifications and preparing and advising on file registrations;
• Prosecution;
• Searches;
• Contentious issues – including opposition and cancellation actions, infringement and anti-counterfeiting issues; and
• Portfolio management and advice.

Because of the diversity of our law firm customer’s clients, your workload will be varied and as your experience grows so will your responsibility and your ability to develop your own client base.

In addition to core responsibilities, the firm encourages all fee earners to add value to the firm and future-proof their career. You can choose to get involved in areas that interest you, be it business development initiatives, training and recruitment, delivering technical seminars or joining working groups to review internal procedures and propose change.

You will be expected to keep up to date with legal developments in the intellectual property field and regular team meetings are timetabled to all fee earners to share knowledge.

Reporting:
The attorney will report to one of the Partners within the Trade Mark practice group.

The person:
• Qualified UK Trade Mark Attorney or a European Qualified Trade Mark Attorney;
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience;
• 2.1 or 1st degree and a strong academic record;
• Strong basic skills in drafting, filing, prosecution and searching;
• Good client care skills;
• Commercial awareness;
• Ability to work using own initiative and relatively independently (commensurate with your level);
• Good workload management, prioritisation and time management skills;
• Excellent attention to detail.
