THE TEAM:

The  Commercial   Litigation   team   sits  within   the  Litigation   group,   which   also  includes   the Employment,  Media Litigation and Real Estate Litigation teams.  The SWUK based Commercial Litigation  team consists  of three partners,  supported  by fourteen solicitors  and three trainees.

The  team   advises   on  a  full  range  of  commercial   and civil disputes,   including:   Breach   of  contract, shareholder  disputes  and tortious  disputes.  The team’s  areas  of work  span much more  widely than  is often  assumed  externally  about  the  firm.  Work  comes  from  a wide  range  of  industry/commercial sectors including: Iinformation technology, telecoms, media, tourism, fishing, manufacturing, retail, energy, sport, pharmaceuticals, mining  and  others.  Our  client’s  network  of  offices  and  established  relationships are throughout  the SWUK.

The Group is particularly well-known for its work in:

  • Domestic commercial litigation in all divisions of the High Court;
  • Substantial multi-jurisdictional litigation;
  • Fraud and asset tracing;
  • Regulatory and governmental  issues and disputes;
  • Conducting investigations  and independent  enquiries;
  • Mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

 

THE ROLE:

Our client currently  has a specific vacancy within the Commercial/Civil  Litigation  team for an Associate  to be based  in the SWUK office.   The role will involve  commercial/civil litigation, mediation, arbitration and other modes of dispute  resolution.  This will be as a member  of both small  and large case teams,  enabling  the successful  candidate  to develop  responsibility  much  more  rapidly  than  is often the case in larger firms.

Our client recognises  that it is important  for our associates  to develop  a broad base of expertise  before deciding  whether  and  where  they  may  wish  to  specialise.  Our client seeks  to  ensure  that their  associates  spend  time  working  with  the Partners  on  a variety  of  matters.  As you develop,  you may wish to super-specialise, this opportunity will be made available to you.   However  for this particular  role candidates  with expertise and an interest in general civil litigation, commercial litigation, IT and some IP, will be of particular interest.

Our client’s associates  benefit from an extensive  internal  training  programme,  with a dedicated  training regime for junior associates,  and thereafter  associates  are encouraged  to attend further (internal and external) training and are also expected to be involved in the delivery of training.

Associates are positively encouraged from early on to participate in and develop skills in business development and marketing activities.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Commercial  Litigation  solicitors  with at least one year’s post qualification  experience  gained from  a  well-regarded  firm  or  team.
  • Candidates  with  previous  experience  or  a  genuine interest  in  developing   expertise   in  commercial, IP and  technology   litigation  will  be  of particular interest.
  • Strong academic record with a minimum 2.1 gained at degree level (or equivalent).
  • Excellent  people skills and a good, clear communication style.   Detail driven and extremely thorough in their approach.
  • Effective team player – able to work effectively in an established,  close-knit team.
  • Desire  to be proactively  involved  in business  development  and marketing.
  • Ability to handle client contact from the outset.
  • Possess a commercial and pragmatic outlook.
